Pet Adoption Volunteer Transport Driver
Duties:
Transporting dogs and cats to PetSmart and other adoption events.
Days and Hours Needed:
Adoption Dog Transport: Saturday and Sunday- 8:30 am to 4:00 pm (times may vary per event)
Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday between 10:00 am to 6:00 pm
Requirements:
- Knowledge of dog and/or cat behavior
- Ability to keep to a schedule and work well with others
- Driver’s License (good driving record)
- Cell phone
Knowledge of animal care and behavior:
- How to correctly fit a collar to prevent escapes
- How to safely lift small, medium, and large animals
- How to gently, safely crate an unwilling animal
- How to recognize signs of stress and aggression, and act appropriately (positively)
- How to recognize signs of illness and reduce risk of transmission
Qualifications:
A willing attitude and a genuine care for people and animals are essential. Frequent bending and kneeling.
All Volunteers must attend a general volunteer information session and orientation.
As a shelter volunteer, you may be exposed to blood, fluids, excrement, loud or unpleasant noises, and unpleasant odors.
Volunteers must have the ability to interact with the public, shelter staff and other volunteers in a courteous and respectful manner, even in stressful situations.
Volunteers must also have the ability to communicate well and follow directions with minimal direct supervision.
Volunteers must be able to follow all safety protocol and shelter procedures as instructed.
Volunteer must be able to make decisions and observations based on a dog or cats observed behavior.
