Thing To Consider When Adopting
The Friends of Orange County Animal Shelter is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.
- Make a list of what you’d like in a pet. For instance, would you like to take an animal on walks or a pet that can sit in your lap and cuddle?
- Pet adoption is a big responsibility that should not be taken lightly. Commit yourself to providing a good home for the animal.
- Visit the Shelter. Take your list with you and speak with an OCAS staff member about your wants in an animal.
- Meet different pets. Pet adoption takes time and you want to select the right animal for you and your family.
- You can interact with cats and dogs at the shelter so you can get to know them better.
- Prepare your home for a pet. Pets need food, water, toys, bedding, collars and leashes. Consider having items on-hand ahead of time.
- Bring a photo ID with you at time of adoption.
- Give your pet time to adapt to its new family and be patient.
